About the networkHow the UK online centres works...

UK online centres are in the places where they can work with the people and communities who need them most. More than half of all UK online centres are in the 2,000 most deprived areas in England. They're open at times to suit their communities, with drop-in facilities, classes and even outreach programmes to take technology out to new people and places.

All centres run as independent organisations and are funded from several different sources. Each year, UK online receives funding from the LSC to distribute to the network as centre grants. However, the main function of the UK online centres organisation is not primarily to distribute money - and most UK online centres do not receive UK online centres' funding at all. The UK online centres team co-ordinate the network and provide support, products via myguide, marketing campaigns, training, networking and project opportunities, and other funding information to help UK online centres run their business, help their communities and plan their own sustainability.

There are around 3,500 membership UK online centres, who receive all of this support, receive weekly newsletters and have access to key support materials and news on the UK online centres extranet Help is at Hand.
